This is especially true within the body. But how does this inform specific treatment of muscles to ease pain and discomfort?
Traditionally, anatomical study breaks the body into its constituent parts, including systems, organs, tissues, and cells. In massage therapy, the focus is the musculoskeletal system and its components: muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and bones. This process of dissection does not describe how these components work together.
Anatomy Trains® provides a fresh take on anatomy, as it relates to the musculoskeletal system. It offers a road map for how muscles work to coordinate movement and produce postural patterns. This road map follows lines of fascia (the connective tissue that binds and supports muscle tissue) of related muscles. Releasing muscles along these Anatomy Trains® lines produces greater results than if muscles are treated individually and in isolation.
